Perryville Panthers Stymied By Rising Sun Tigers

The Perryville Panthers Varsity Softball Team couldn’t keep up with their cross-county rival Rising Sun Tigers and fell 12-0 on Monday.

Rising Sun jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Taylor Stapleford drew a walk, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored one run.

The Tigers added one run in the second after Gemma Brand grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Rising Sun scored six runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning. Aubrey McCoy grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Emma McBride singled, scoring one run, and Carsyn Godwin singled, scoring three runs.

Stapleford earned the win for the Tigers. The pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking none. Saphira Hamill took the loss for Perryville. The righty went five and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs (six earned) on four hits, striking out five and walking nine. Madison Ore earned the save.

Taegan Spier led Perryville with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position.

Carsyn Godwin set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Rising Sun with two hits in four at bats. McCoy and Godwin each drove in two runs for Rising Sun. The Tigers had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Bailey Vaughan, Malea Ferdinando, and Kylie Parker led the team with two bases on balls each.

Perryville will travel to Rising Sun for their next game this afternoon at 3:30pm
