Keeley’s five-goal night powers HarCo past Broadneck, 10-2

ANNAPOLIS — Senior Connor Keeley of Patterson Mill put on a scoring show Friday as HarCo’s varsity hockey team rolled to a 10-2 win over the Broadneck Bruins at McMullen Ice Rink in Annapolis on Jan. 2.

Keeley buried five goals to lead a balanced HarCo attack that produced 10 scores from six different players and built a 7-2 advantage through two periods on the way to the Eastern Division victory.

With the gamesheet clock counting down in 15-minute periods, HarCo struck first at 14:25 remaining in the opening period when Keeley opened the scoring. Senior Michael Popp of C. Milton Wright made it 2-0 at 12:45, and Keeley struck again at 2:11 left to push the lead to 3-0.

Broadneck answered late in the period, scoring with 0:47 remaining to cut it to 3-1 heading to the intermission.

HarCo blew the game open in the second. Senior Camden Pietrowski of North Harford scored with 10:45 remaining, assisted by Popp and junior Gavin Donnelly (Patterson Mill). Keeley then added two more at 8:09 and 3:24 left, and senior Dylan Schenk of Bel Air finished the period’s scoring for HarCo with a goal at 2:08 remaining to make it 7-1.

Broadneck scored again with 0:12 left in the second, but HarCo stayed in command going to the third.

HarCo tacked on three more in the final period. Junior Jeremy Monks of Concordia Prep scored with 13:50 remaining off an assist from Donnelly, then Pietrowski netted his second at 10:50 left with assists from Schenk and freshman Patrick Sherwood of Havre de Grace. Keeley capped the scoring with 1:35 remaining to finish his five-goal performance. 

In goal, senior Matthew Rojao of Sparrows Point played the entire game for HarCo and helped limit Broadneck to 18 shots as HarCo outshot the Bruins 22-18.
