Powerful Pitching Performance From Taylor Stapleford Carries Rising Sun Past Elkton in 10-0 Shut Out.

Taylor Stapleford struck out 10 batters as the starting pitcher led the Rising Sun Varsity Tigers past the Elkton Golden Elks 10-0 on Thursday. Stapleford surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none.

Rising Sun opened the scoring in the second after Emma McBride singled, scoring one run.

Rising Sun scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Aubrey McCoy singled, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, and McBride singled, scoring one run.

Emma Sprouse took the loss for Elkton. The pitcher went four and one-third innings, surrendering 10 runs (one earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking one.

Cheyenne Karashin led Rising Sun with two runs batted in. McCoy and McBride each collected two hits for the Tigers. Rising Sun didn’t commit a single error in the field. McCoy had the most chances in the field with eight.

Rising Sun will travel to Patterson Mill on Friday as the #4 seed in the UCBAC Championship. The #1 seeded Huskies will host the Tigers at 3:30pm. The winner will play for the UCBAC Championship Title on Tuesday May 6th against the winner of Friday’s Bohemia Manor vs. Havre de Grace game.
