Aberdeen Varsity Eagles couldn’t keep up with Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks and fell 21-3 on Wednesday.
Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Grady Magin singled, scoring one run, Ben McGrew doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, a dropped third strike scored two runs, Andrew Brinn homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Cooper Gill drew a walk, scoring one run.
Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks scored six runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Cayden Murray tripled, scoring two runs, Ethan Wiggington doubled, scoring one run, Magin was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Gill singled, scoring one run, and McGrew grounded out, scoring one run.
Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Logan Deane walked, and Magin grounded out, each scoring one run.
Trevor Zakowsky stepped on the hill first for Aberdeen Varsity Eagles. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and nine runs (two earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking two. Aedan Missel opened the game for Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks. The hurler allowed five hits and three runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
David Mundrick went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Ayden Fleming, Conor Jones, Mike Hillier, Zakowsky, and Mundrick each collected one hit for Aberdeen Varsity Eagles.
Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks amassed 12 hits in the game. Brinn, McGrew, Gill, and Wiggington each collected two hits for Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks. Brinn went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with five runs batted in. Deane led Manchester Valley Varsity Mavericks with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.
