Historic Perryville Run Ends With Boys Lacrosse Title Loss

It wasn’t the ending the Perryville Panthers wanted, but their trip to the MPSSAA 1A
Boys State Championship against familiar UCBAC rival Fallston was a historic matchup. Unlike
their playoff runs in two previous years, this Panthers squad became the first Cecil County team
in history to make it to the title game.

The 19-8 loss to a team with multiple state titles did little to tarnish the ride Perryville
took on the back of an aggressive attack and stellar goalkeeping all season. Before the Panthers
appearances in the state championship brackets the last three years, only the North East boys
in 2014 and Rising Sun girls of 2008 had made it as far as the state semifinals.

They responded to a quick Cougar 3-0 run to start the game by mounting an early
comeback to a 3-3 tie in the first quarter. That’s where the dream ride ended, as Fallston
rattled off 10 unanswered goal to put the game and championship out of reach for Perryville.

Luke Roberts and Vinnie Muscella score three goals each for Perryville in the loss.
